Preparation was a bit patchy, with me unable to get to event training when it was on and no event training scheduled when I was available! Worse luck when I developed a bladder infection a few days before, which was followed by a cold sore and an ulcer - I was obviously run down! Add in the start of my period the day before the competition, and I was dithering about making the 2 hour trip (especially with the girls in tow).
I still ordered food for a day out for us all in Friday's grocery delivery and when I woke up early Saturday morning, I decided to go for it!
We arrived just before the 10am registration time and it was lovely to see Sue behind the registration desk. Sue was there last year as a competitor, and one of the other lone newbies who I'd spent the day chatting with. I remember she was a powelifter who had turned up on a whim after seeing the event on Heysevent and placed! She's since joined the strongman gym that hosts in Southampton and done a couple of other strongman events.
It was gone 1130 before we got started and first up was 35kg log for reps. I've never done log for reps though I knew I could manage the weight. I drew tenth, and got 10 reps. (My husband was videoing for me on the understanding that he was also looking after the girls which took priority, so a couple of reps were missed!).
After receiving my medal for turning up (I came 7th out of 10) and cheering all the other competitors, especially the winners, we finally got on the road about 1830! A very long day for us all.
