The other two women training are both competing on 7 June in qualifiers for England's Strongest Woman. Although I mentioned my novice competition in October last week, I hadn't mentioned the charity one, and I didn't want to at this point as it isn't as important as their one! We therefore did events that will help them - log press, yoke, deadlifts and farmers walk.
I got a few single 40kg log clean and presses this time, and was able to try out some wrist wraps. The kind owner said they are easily picked up on Ebay, so I might look into that. I need some liquid chalk too, so that's a small online shopping trip planned. I managed to clean a 42.5kg log, but not press it. Still, an improvement on last week and I should be fine for the overhead medley on Saturday (35kg log, 35kg barbell, 30kg keg... well, I think I'll be fine with that keg!).
I discovered I deadlift 'all wrong' for strongman and need to speed up and become more explosive. I therefore spent a lot of time repeating 3 x 80kg sets, and receiving coaching on the movement. This was helpful for Saturday, as there is a deadlift for reps event.
I'm not usually one for 'inspirational' pictures, but I came across this recently and thought it quite apt for the coming competition. I will probably come last but that's still better than not turning up (which occasionally crosses my mind, especially when I consider the solo drive to Southampton)!
