I was feeling good about my progress post-whiplash, and then hurt my back on Valentine's Day. It was only my second events training since I dared to show my face again, and I was doing 15" deadlifts. The 110kg was fine, but the 120kg attempt sent a shooting pain down my lower back.
Fortunately, I was able to see a physio through my work PMI provider and he worked some magic. He's definitely the best I've seen, as he understands my sport. He used dry needle technique to get to the muscle that has spasmed in response and the pain passed in a few days.
I hit the gym again today, with another new PT! Paul owns the gym where I train strongman events - Unit 5 in Watford - and with only 5 weeks to my first comp of the year, I need some help!
We worked on my deadlift technique, and I pulled 100kg x 3. That's already boosted my confidence as I hadn't reached 100kg prior to hurting my back, and the comp event is 100kg for reps.
There's a overhead medley, and we looked at three of the five lifts. The 40kg axle C&P was fine, as was the 16kg kettlebell (though I need to work on my technique a bit). I couldn't quite manage the 25kg dumbbell, so definitely need to practice that and build strength in the remaining weeks.
I'm seeing him again tomorrow, but am already much more confident about the comp!
