The single word, the partner to "strongman, like you see on telly' and my current goal - a Strongwoman competition.
I don't really recall when I first stumbled across strongwoman events. Strength Ambassadors do training days, and you get the occasional reference on some of the training sites I read, which lead me to following FB pages of gyms, event promoters and contestants. There wasn't one single article that prompted an interest, more of a gradual piquing!
I really enjoyed the Olympic Weightlifting course I did, and was disappointed I couldn't continue. However, my husband looks after our children 5 days a week and me disappearing for a large chunk of every Saturday *might* have been taking the piss a bit! It wasn't fair on the girls either, as Saturday is the only day neither of us work.
Being unable to continue meant I looked elsewhere to train, and my search led me to the Centre For Functional Performance. Right here on my doorstep in Watford! I went along one Sunday and was the only one oly lifting, while everybody else was doing strongman training. It looked fun, and everybody was friendly. Naomi and Julie were very positive about the competition scene.
I'd said to friends that I was thinking that 2016 might be the year I entered a competition, and then I saw an October novice competition on FB. The events and weights seem feasible, so here I am! All paid up as an entrant.
Handily, Strength Ambassadors announced three Strongwoman training days last week and I'm signed up. I'm also hoping to return to CFFP later in the year.
